CARICOM unity?

Last night's opening ceremony of heads was jolted by a stinging contribution from Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Patrick Manning.

The twin island republic's economy, smarting from the recent oil, economic arrangement with Venezuela prompted the leader to remind member states of his island's favour's to the region. Manning listed debt cancellation, security and many other areas of cooperation.

His comments however did not go unchallenged by St. Lucia 's Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Kenny D Anthony. The prime minister sought to remind manning that thus far Trinidad and Tobago had been a significant beneficiary of trade within Caricom and that many islands in the region were running a trade deficit with Trinidad & Tobago.

Guyana 's president while concerned about the remarks and its effects at such a forum says heads are free to express their national concerns

Jamaica 's PJ Patterson was more forthcoming with his thoughts on Manning's comments.
