Brian Lara 313 not out 68 short of world record
Brian Lara closed in on another world record and virtually ended England's hopes of completing an historic whitewash after ending his run drought in the final Test at the Recreation Ground.
West Indies' talisman and captain had scored just 100 runs in the opening three Tests as England claimed their first series win in the Caribbean since 1968 and even had his ability to still perform at this level questioned in the build-up to the Antigua finale.
But he ridiculed those suggestions at the close of day two with a majestic display which exploited the best batting surface of the series to score an unbeaten 313, guide his side to a commanding 595 for five and leave him needing only 68 runs to reclaim the world Test batting record he lost only in October.
