{"id":9322,"date":"2016-01-26T21:55:17","date_gmt":"2016-01-27T01:55:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?p=9322"},"modified":"2016-01-26T21:55:17","modified_gmt":"2016-01-27T01:55:17","slug":"kamla-section-34-ruling-vindicates-pp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?p=9322","title":{"rendered":"Kamla: Section 34 Ruling Vindicates PP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><I>January 26 2016 &#8211; <A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.newsday.co.tt\/politics\/0,223141.html\">newsday.co.tt<\/A><\/I><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?tag=kamla-persad-bissessar\"><img src='http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blogimg\/kamlasm.jpg' width='150' height='100' border='0' class='alignleft' title='Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar' alt='Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar' \/><\/a>FORMER prime minister and current Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar yesterday said the ruling by the Privy Council was a clear vindication of her then government\u2019s decision to repeal the controversial Section 34 of the Administration of Justice (Indictable Offences) Act.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nIn a statement yesterday, the Opposition Leader said the ruling in the challenge of businessmen Steve Ferguson and Ameer Edoo, and three companies, highlighted the swift action taken by the then People\u2019s Partnership government to convene Parliament, on an emergency basis, \u201cto repeal a law that was unanimously passed with the support of all Members of Parliament with the noble intention of improving the system of criminal justice.\u201d \u201cThis decision of the Privy Council represents a victory for the rule of law and the Constitution. The decision affirms the supremacy and power of parliament.
