{"id":9043,"date":"2015-07-22T11:29:25","date_gmt":"2015-07-22T15:29:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?p=9043"},"modified":"2015-07-22T11:29:25","modified_gmt":"2015-07-22T15:29:25","slug":"volney-lands-job-at-health-ministry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?p=9043","title":{"rendered":"Volney lands job at Health Ministry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><I>By Sue-Ann Wayow<br \/>\nJuly 22, 2015 &#8211; <A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.trinidadexpress.com\/20150722\/news\/volney-lands-job-at-health-ministry\">trinidadexpress.com<\/A><\/I><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?p=9043\"><img src='http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blogimg\/spmM2605106464.jpg' width='150' height='100' border='0' class='alignleft' title='Herbert Volney' alt='Herbert Volney' \/><\/a>FORMER Minister of Justice Herbert Volney who was fired in September 2012 by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar for his role in the Section 34 fiasco, was hired several months ago by the Ministry of Health as a legal consultant.<\/p>\n<p>Volney was working for a monthly salary of between $25,000 and $30,000.<\/p>\n<p>The Sunshine newspaper first reported on Volney\u2019s new position, and gave his monthly remuneration as $30,000.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nVolney and Health Minister Dr Fuad Khan confirmed the report yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Khan said that Volney was receiving a monthly salary of $25,000 to $30,000, which was the normal fee for a consultant.<\/p>\n<p>Contacted on social media, Volney told the Express: \u201cI have completed a short term consultancy with the Ministry of Health.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked when his contracted term would have been completed, Volney replied: \u201cOfficials at the Health Ministry can confirm this information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said he was asked by the ministry to assist in legal matters.<\/p>\n<p>Asked whether the job had anything to do with his recent open suppoort for the UNC, Volney said: \u201cI can\u2019t say that. The Ministry of Health needed a consultant for its legislative agenda and I was recruited on a short term contractual basis that has now ended. I saw it as an opportunity to step out of retirement as a prelude to possible service in the next term of this government. \u201cI was brought in on a short term consultancy to assist the Ministry with proposed legislation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In a text response for comment on the Volney hiring, Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley wrote: \u201cConsultant in the Ministry of Health?
