{"id":8885,"date":"2015-05-24T14:49:33","date_gmt":"2015-05-24T18:49:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?p=8885"},"modified":"2015-05-24T14:49:33","modified_gmt":"2015-05-24T18:49:33","slug":"special-branch-report-dpp-office-was-monitored","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?p=8885","title":{"rendered":"Special Branch report: DPP Office was monitored"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><I>By Anika Gumbs<br \/>\nMay 23, 2015 &#8211; <A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.trinidadexpress.com\/20150523\/news\/special-branch-report-dpp-office-was-monitored\">trinidadexpress.com<\/A><\/I><\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blogimg\/spying2.jpg' width='150' height='100' border='0' class='alignleft' title='Spying' alt='Spying' \/>A Special Branch report has contradicted claims that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) was not being monitored.<\/p>\n<p>The report confirmed that infrared (IR) signals were found in the conference room of the DPP&#8217;s Office at the Winsure Building, Richmond Street, Port of Spain on January 11, 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar had referred to the report where it noted that infrared signals were found, but never divulged the full contents of it.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n<A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.tv6tnt.com\/sevenpm-news\/-March-for-justice---304791171.html\">See the report filed by TV6&#8217;s Mark Bassant<\/A><\/p>\n<p>Findings of the report were forwarded to former national security minister Emmanuel George on May 24, 2013 by acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams. Unable to confirm or deny whether conversations involving various high-level cases were being monitored by technical surveillance, Williams said: &#8220;I have been advised that officers of Special Branch conducted an electronic sweep of the Office of the DPP, fifth floor, Winsure Building, Port of Spain on January 11, 2013. During the sweep they did not find any electronic listening device.
