{"id":8301,"date":"2014-07-16T09:09:49","date_gmt":"2014-07-16T13:09:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?p=8301"},"modified":"2014-07-16T09:09:49","modified_gmt":"2014-07-16T13:09:49","slug":"embrace-ideals-and-principles-of-mandela","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?p=8301","title":{"rendered":"Embrace ideals and principles of Mandela"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><I>By Richardson Dhalai<br \/>\nJuly 16, 2014 &#8211; <A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.newsday.co.tt\/politics\/0,197703.html\">newsday.co.tt<\/A><\/I><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?tag=nelson-mandela\"><img src='http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blogimg\/mandela.jpg' width='150' height='100' border='0' class='alignleft' alt='Nelson Mandela' \/><\/a>Public Administration Minister, Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan, has advised the nation to embrace the ideals and principles of former South African president, Nelson Mandela, saying \u201chis life principle of \u2018Ubuntu\u2019 or \u2018I am because you are\u2019 can greatly benefit our nation as it deals with the inequities in our society.\u201d<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nSeepersad- Bachan was addressing a UNESCO sponsored youth rally titled \u201cthe Mandela Effect-respect for all\u201d at the Harris Promenade, San Fernando yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Recalling that one of the most important lessons to be learnt from the legendary freedom fighter was his \u201cbelief in the future and the children who would be the future\u201d saying he also promoted education as a key instrument of liberation having also set up the Nelson Mandela Children\u2019s Fund, The Nelson Mandela Foundation, the Mandela Rhodes Foundation, and the Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we think of Mandela, we think of the man, the great President who inspired the world with a quality of leadership based on servanthood and an ability to unite diverse peoples into a strong unified nation,\u201d she said, and noted that the child Nelson was born before World War 1 and grew up in rural South Africa herding cattle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd yet he emerged as a qualified lawyer, a great liberator and a statesman. This evolution was not accidental. He was nurtured by the wisdom of his elders \u2014 in the same way that many of you, children, here today are nurtured by your parents and teachers \u2014 strengthened by the indignities, the insults the abuse and the malice directed to his people and succored by the hope that life could change, that there was abundance in his country that all could share.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we understood that our very being is inter connected with all others on our journey, that we exist because others do and without each other we are nothing. It matters not our educational levels, our wealth, our social standing.
