{"id":310,"date":"2007-07-29T17:24:56","date_gmt":"2007-07-29T21:24:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?p=310"},"modified":"2007-07-29T17:24:56","modified_gmt":"2007-07-29T21:24:56","slug":"winston-dookeran-invites-njac-to-join-cop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?p=310","title":{"rendered":"Winston Dookeran invites NJAC to join COP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>By Richardson Dhalai<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsday.co.tt\/politics\/0,61460.html\">www.newsday.co.tt<\/a><br \/>\nSunday, July 29 2007<\/i><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blogimg\/cop.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"100\" border=\"0\" align=\"left\" alt=\"Congress of the People\">Congress of the People (COP) political leader Winston Dookeran urged residents of Laventille and Morvant to \u201crise beyond the narrow politics of the past\u201d and usher in a COP regime at the next General Election.<\/p>\n<p>He also called on the National Joint Action Committee (NJAC) to \u201cjoin with\u201d the COP to rescue the nation, when he addressed a public meeting at Harris Promenade, San Fernando, on Friday night.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n\u201cToday I make a call to the National Joint Action Committee to come with us in the Congress of the People so we can together take us out of this crisis that this Government has put us in,\u201d Dookeran said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI make a call to all the people in Laventille\/ Morvant as we have done throughout Trinidad and Tobago in Barrackpore, San Fernando and Chaguanas, the time has come for us to rise beyond narrow politics of the past.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the 17th anniversary of the 1990 attempted coup, Dookeran said true leadership was not about \u2018&#8217;bravado and guntalk\u201d but about \u201crolling up your sleeves and getting down to work.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cLeadership is about standing up for the citizens of this country and defending their rights to fundamental freedoms. Leadership is about knowing when to fight, how to fight and how to win,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>Referring to an alliance between several parties to form the UNC Alliance, Dookeran advised supporters not to be fooled by men who \u201ctalk leadership but fail to provide leadership.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe last I heard was some said they would find a leader after the election,\u201d Dookeran said. <\/p>\n<p>Also addressing the meeting was Pointe-a-Pierre MP Gillian Lucky; former National Security Minister Joseph Toney; IBN boss Inshan Ishmael and COP security advisor Capt Gary Griffith. <\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/www.newsday.co.tt\/politics\/0,61460.html<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Richardson Dhalai www.newsday.co.tt Sunday, July 29 2007 Congress of the People (COP) political leader Winston Dookeran urged residents of Laventille and Morvant to \u201crise beyond the narrow politics of the past\u201d and usher in a COP regime at the next General Election.
