\nFor the first time in 33 years, no member of the Panday clan will face the electorate in a general election. The final straw came yesterday when the two remaining Pandays, Mickela, daughter of the party’s founder Basdeo Panday, and her uncle Subhas were rejected as candidates for the May 24 polls.<\/p>\n

\nUNITED National Congress (UNC) political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar yesterday cleaned house by sweeping out all former MPs who were loyal to party founder Basdeo Panday. None of these MPs were included in the final group of 25 UNC candidates who will contest the May 24 general election. <\/p>\n

\nUNC founder Basdeo Panday has accused the UNC’s new Persad-Bissessar administration of being vindictive in choosing candidates, after all the MPs loyal to Panday were removed from the UNC’s election slate. <\/p>\n

\nA political dynasty that spanned four decades ended yesterday with the rejection of Mickela and Subhas Panday as candidates to fight for the UNC in the May 24 poll. <\/p>\n
