\nHEAD of the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha, (SDMS) Sat Maharaj yesterday endorsed the resignation of former Congress of the People candidate Devant Maharaj, saying the political ground has ‘shifted’ to the UNC. Maharaj, who last week expressed his support for the UNC and Kamla Persad-Bissessar, said he feels the two parties are no longer in the same league as the COP doesn’t have as much to offer in the way of strong candidates. <\/p>\n

\nRamnath, who has been a foundation member of the UNC, said rumours were circulating which gave the impression that he was not in support of UNC political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar. \u201cDo not believe these rumours…They are acts of subterfuge designed by several people to give the impression that we don\u2019t support,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\nANGERED at being snubbed by his own constituency executive members who have thrown their support behind young Ravi Rattiram as their choice to contest the Tabaquite seat for the UNC in the snap general election, former MP Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj yesterday declared: “I am and will always remain a member of the United National Congress. The UNC is my political home and nobody is going to run me out of the UNC!” <\/p>\n

\nFORMER Caroni Central MP Dr Hamza Rafeeq is expected to file nomination papers as he seeks to be selected by the UNC to contest that seat in the general election. Rafeeq has represented that seat since 1995.<\/p>\n

\nNetwork of NGOs of Trinidad and Tobago for the Advancement of Women co-ordinator, Hazel Brown, has called on Prime Minister Patrick Manning to stop picking on his Arima MP, Pennelope Beckles, after she expressed praise for the woman who would be fighting Manning to become Trinidad and Tobago’s next Prime Minister in the 2010 general election.<\/p>\n
