{"id":2530,"date":"2010-02-17T05:16:19","date_gmt":"2010-02-17T09:16:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?p=2530"},"modified":"2010-02-17T05:16:19","modified_gmt":"2010-02-17T09:16:19","slug":"panday-to-form-his-own-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?p=2530","title":{"rendered":"Panday to form his own party"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Kimberly Mackhan<br \/>\nFebruary 17, 2010 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/guardian.co.tt\/news\/politics\/2010\/02\/17\/panday-form-his-own-party\">guardian.co.tt<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/\">www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?p=2530\"><img src='http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blogimg\/panday2.jpg' width='150' height='100' border='0' class='alignleft' alt='Basdeo Panday' \/><\/a>Attorney Ricky Harnanan has been mandated to pinpoint the requirements that Basdeo Panday would need to form another political party, and maintain his position as Leader of the Opposition, according to a well-placed informant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRicky has been asked to prepare a constitution (for Panday\u2019s proposed party) for consideration, in consultation with Ramesh Maharaj, and the discussions with Ramesh have been spearheaded by Kelvin (Ramnath),\u201d said the informant, who was close to Panday. \u201cIt includes Ramesh being made chief whip and deputy political leader and political leader-in-waiting (of Panday\u2019s new party).\u201d<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n The informant said that Panday was holding on to his strength of Opposition UNC Members of Parliament (MPs)\u2014his daughter Mikela, brother Subhas, Kelvin Ramnath, Ramesh Maharaj, Vasant Bharath, Dr Hamza Rafeeq and Dr Tim Gopeesingh\u2014to prevent his rival, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, from removing and replacing him as Opposition Leader.
