{"id":1581,"date":"2009-09-07T03:31:28","date_gmt":"2009-09-07T07:31:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?p=1581"},"modified":"2009-09-07T03:31:28","modified_gmt":"2009-09-07T07:31:28","slug":"uff-inquiry-postponed-until-further-notice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?p=1581","title":{"rendered":"Uff inquiry postponed until further notice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>newsday.co.tt<br \/>\nSunday, September 6 2009<\/i><br \/>\n<em>Trinidad and Tobago News Blog<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/\">www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blog\/?p=1581\"><img src='http:\/\/www.trinidadandtobagonews.com\/blogimg\/calderhart.jpg' class='alignleft' alt='Calder Hart' \/><\/a>THE HEARINGS of the fourth and final phase of the Uff Commission of Inquiry into Udecott, which was expected to start tomorrow, was yesterday adjourned \u201cuntil further notice\u201d by its chairman Professor John Uff.<\/p>\n<p>In an email sent by the inquiry\u2019s secretariat to all the parties to the proceedings yesterday, it was announced that the hearing would not take place, but instead a press conference would be scheduled for 11am on Monday.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n\u201cI am directed by the Chairman of the Commission of Enquiry into the Construction Sector to inform you that the hearing of the Commission fixed for Monday 7 September, 2009, will be adjourned until further notice,\u201d secretary Judith Gonzalez wrote in the email.<\/p>\n<p>Sources yesterday reported that a legal hitch over the commission has emerged which may have lead to the decision to adjourn the proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>Under the Commission of Inquiry Act, \u201call commissions&#8230;shall be published in the Gazette, and shall take effect from the date of publication.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is reported that, to date, the commission has not been Gazetted. But sources yesterday also reported that under the Interpretation Act, the commission could be retrospectively Gazetted.
