Cop: I was pressured into charging mother

By Anika Gumbs-Sandiford

JailPOLICE acted wrongfully when 19-year-old Anita Annamunthodo was arrested and slapped with six counts of wilful neglect of her murdered four-year-old daughter Emily Amy Annamunthodo.

In his report to senior officers on April 19, PC Marcel Hamilton, complainant in the matter, admitted that his judgment was flawed when he laid the charges.

Hamilton, a policeman for the past seven years, stated that he laid the charges unwillingly, because he felt he could not challenge the instructions of a senior homicide officer.

Lara put manhood before glory

Brian LaraI have never met or spoken with Brian Lara. I didn’t need to (how easily one lapses into the past tense). Like millions of cricket fans around the world, I enjoyed his batting genius, replays et al, thanks to modern technology. But just the thrill of expecting big things from this little man was worth the wait.

San Fernando to Icacos in pictures

Journey to Icacos
The journey to the last point of Trinidad in the southwestern end of the island, the village of Icacos, was a long one but every moment of the trip was well worth it. The day was radiant and ideal for sight-seeing: the sky showed-off its brilliant blue; the few clouds in the sky added soft drops of fluffy balls to the blue canvas; and the sun completed the heavenly scene with a spot of gold that illuminated the colourful earth below.

The Pastor’s daughter

Danah and Akon at ZenIf the pastor’s daughter plans a career as an exotic dancer or a “dutty winer”, I applaud the 15 year-old. How many children at that age would make career decisions? Most are looking at their school curriculum, trying to determine what subjects suit them; what they would want to succeed in order to move on to A-Levels (now CAPE). They may even be thinking university education or skills training, but few would have carved career paths that would take them through life.
