Man charged in $24 million drug, weapons bust

Outar MarajOutar Maraj of Mc Bean Village, Couva, appeared in the Tunapuna Second Magistrates’ Court today, on two counts of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking; one count of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking; possession of four firearms and a quantity of assorted ammunition.

The matter was adjourned to Tuesday.

It’s dangerous to have a narrow view on crime to just look at those who we see actually carrying out the violence; quite often, there are other players who may be ordering the crimes, financing them, importing the guns and drugs and supplying the weapons to street criminals. As we can see from time to time, the players on that level are quite diverse. The more money they have, the less likely they would be directly involved in the more violent aspects of criminality.

  2. Its good that the police was able to make an arrest in this case. However, will this case go ahead. The name and picture of the person was reported in the news. We should recall that the $2 mil US found in a shipment to a contractor. No further news, investigation or charges!!!!. We did not even get the name of the contractor. What became of this case. It seems that all these cases end up dormant.

    What about the other high profile discovery of drugs. It seems that some people are able to buy their way out of their crime.
