Dominica after Hurricane MariaFollowing Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley’s proposal for T&T to open its doors to citizens of Dominica in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, there was a lot of racist, political and xenophobic remarks on social media from citizens who disagreed with the idea.

Some of the comments included:

•Well we already have an influx of Chinese, Guyanese, Nigerians and deportees coming in. Just saying.

•We all know Rowley bringing them here to vote PNM but Trinidad importing food many people don’t have jobs or homes. What you think will happen????? Is more crime.

•Sadly we have become quite a selfish, self-centred society. We will not lend a hand to our physical neighbour much less our Caribbean neighbour. I pray God change our hearts of stone.

  1. Dismantling our immigration borders to allow Dominicans into T&T
has a way of making a temporary situation permanent. Are we allowing undocumented looters and car thieves to infiltrate our body politics? Why are Barbados, Jamaica and St Vincent not doing the same? Are they inhumane as well? Send aid to the Dominicans in their country and do not complicate our humanitarian response. In fact T&T is using and exploiting a regional humanitarian disaster to promote the achievement of altering the electoral demographics while Jamaicans are daily ballooing the electoral list. Rowley is a well-known PNM architect and expert on voter-padding and he is using the Dominican crisis to foster and promote his sinister agenda given his declining political fortunes and ratings. We are not stupid and dotish to see this terylene response.

  2. Trinidad Express: Sep 21, 2017, 10:00 pm AST

PRIME Minister Dr Keith Rowley yesterday encouraged Trinidad and Tobago to open its homes to Dominicans displaced by Hurricane Maria.

He said those who can find accommodation in T&T are welcome and while this country was not in a position to offer financial aid, assistance to a Caricom neighbour in need could be rendered in other forms.

He has also appealed to Dominicans living in T&T to open their homes to relatives devastated by Maria.

Government is prepared to waive the necessary immigration laws to allow for stays of six months at a time, he said.

The Prime Minister was clear in stating that his government “is prepared to waive the necessary immigration laws to allow for stays of six months at a time”. I guess after six month, if any remain that long in T&T, they can apply to extend the stay (I suspect depending on the situation in Dominica). This is a response to an emergency situation especially at a time T&T cannot render much financial aid. Other countries can offer what they deem fit. There was no mention of allowing those persons to remain in T&T (although personally, I would facilitate some staying with proper vetting). Most persons (mostly Indians) who have a problem with this move have exposed their rank racism.

  3. The dignified, human response is to trust and support the PM on this desperate issue, especially when children, the elderly and the disabled are involved.
I am disappointed in the selfish response if people like Sat Marajah who is supposed to be a religious leader.
When people are without food, shelter and water you do not focus on voters’ lists. You help in the many ways possible.

  4. Dissembling is unseemly, TMan. We know who you are and what you are. You, Stephen Kangal, Kamla, Anand, and even Mamoo and the rest of your racist tribe will end up in the dustbin of history. After the outpourings of ethnic hatred directed against Dominicans by your racist ilk, it’s simply poetic justice if said Dominicans obtain Trinidad citizenship and seek justice at the ballot box. Not a damn seat for you!

    1. This nation has over 40,000 Venezuelans, unlisted amount of Chinese, along with a vast number of Africans from the fatherland.

This country does not have a clear immigration policy. The PM decides the immigration policy and all others follow. When Tobago was being purchased by the Germans and other European nations, an immigration policy emerge, you have to be a citizen by birth to purchase land. What is the immigration policy of this administration for Trinidad. If you go to the back of Penal you will find Chinese grocery store. From Penal to Debe there are over 15 Chinese restaurants and grocery stores. Now that tell me that the Chinese government have an immigration policy.
They bring their own people to work in these businesses.

The government must have a clearly outline immigration policy. Most developed nation immigration policy functions under a point system. Where skilled and educated immigrants are welcome into their nation. They attract foreigners with business acumen and those who have very fat bank accounts. So it is not surprising that their economy grows. Along with that they attract young people because older folks are viewed as being a burden on the system.

The Prime Minister cannot unilaterally decide to invite thousands of foreigners into the nation without a clear plan. Where are they going to stay, do they have a criminal record, what is the level of education required, how many can the nation receive comfortably? Any immigration policy must put Trinidad first. What is good for the citizenry of this nation. Example do we need more doctors, Mason, nurses, engineers, business people. When you have established the needs then formulate your immigration policies to facilitate such a need!

      1. As far as the PNM is concerned as long as they have a forefinger that they could dip in the electoral ink, they are qualified.

  5. xenophobia abounds,i had a relative tell me that the unfair treatment of Jamaicans by T&T immigration policy was some how linked to human organ trafficing.

  6. While there may be “no expiry date on “goodness and decency” as the Prime Minister stated, there is a limit to people’s tolerance. The Prime Minister’s clever use of the words “goodness and decency” automatically places those who object in the category of “the Bad”, “the Indecent” and “the Uncaring” but there is nothing decent about the growing number of small islander criminals already living here, criminalizing Society with the worst of crimes, and Rowley does not speak for the wider national community but ONLY for his narrow 28 percent support base, the majority of whom have embedded small island roots, thanks to PNM’s Caricom Migrant Voters Bank Scheme spanning the Williams, Chambers and Manning eras. And yes, the issue of ethnicity cannot be ignored; even though disappointing to the Prime Minister, but who cares?

The ethnic reality of this country’s runaway crime speaks for itself, and the CARICOM Small Islander contribution” to making Trinidad and Tobago the Third World latrinee it is today with one of the highest random crime rates in the world is in sync with that ethnic reality.

Trinidad and Tobago has played host to several generations of small islander criminals for too long. It is time that those who truly care for our country and who want to see its sorry condition improved, make their voices heard by sending a message to Rowley and Company that Trinidad and Tobago, blighted as it already is by the PNM, is still not their personal fiefdom to do with as they please, not even for the five year period that they “in charge”….. Eh Camille?

And we are well aware of the PNM’s lack of compunction when it comes to supplementing its local ethnic support base with their CARICOM kith and kin whenever the need arises.

The Americans, Canadians and the British are deporting criminals back to their native jurisdictions regardless of how long they have lived legally in those adopted homelands and regardless of their familial ties.

Its time Trinidad and Tobago revisit its commitment to CARICOM’s Free Movement Policy and formulate a new Immigration and Naturalization policy predicated on sanitizing our population, ridding the country of CARICOM criminals.

In other words once you commit serious crime here and you are not a born and bred TrinBagonian, you will be put on the first plane or banana boat back to wherever you came from, regardless of your legal status, length of legal residence or how many chirren yuh make here.

Dominican looters are on the rampage right now, stealing from their own. Does Rowley have any mechanisms in place to ensure that none of that type comes here to claim Refugee Status?

It is my ope that what is now a mild uproar in opposition to the Prime Minister’s “Dominica Initiative” would escalate into a national cacophony of resentment and intolerance toward any new CARICOM arrivals, not only the Dominicans but any and all seeking shelter here.

    1. Sorry Buddy.. The debate is OVER.. and there is not a darn thing y’all can do about it.. Give it a break.. y’all LOST..

Stuppes.. like somebody have to get allyuh approval on immigration issues..

      Elections DO have consequences..

      1. RamK said, “Elections DO have consequences”

Not when the the PNM’s ethnic support base is complemented by their CARICOM kith and kin”. Yuh tink Rowley love Dominicans? After six months they could get ID cards and vote here. And who yuh tink dey voting for? Not dey brethren who bring them here? Man wake up and see de snake in de balisier

        1. Ok, I think I have to upgrade my ‘name’..
          It’s really RamKillerMan…

          Sorry for the confusion..

          Have a great night..

    2. Is this a speech planned to be delivered by an Opposition UNC Member of Parliament? Caroni maybe? Fyzabad maybe? Tabaquite maybe?

      1. Where else? You expect to get that kind of speech from Laventille, Morvant, Sea Lots, Gun Hill, or Enterprise?

          1. But Jed, you don’t have to pretend to be Chinese.
The contents of your comments told us who you really are.

  7. There is a consistency with the vexation of this UNC operative, aka “Jed Achong”. He is obviously not Chinese and most definitely Indian, but chose to use Chinese identify to voice his opposition. The Chinese community has NEVER voiced opposition to immigration into this country. But Indians most have most definitely done so, with consistency. And that is because they are forever counting the votes at the ballot box. This is what is driving the hate and vexation. The following quotes from “Jed Achong” belabors this point, because every black man or woman, means a vote for the PNM IN HIS FEEBLE ESTEEM, to make sure the UNC has maximum chances of winning the next election. That point comes out LOUD AND CLEAR. All his utterances point to him counting the numbers, which is vexatious in the Indian community.
I will say more about that in my follow up blog.

But for now examine his quotes to see how numbers play the important role in his vexation:

    1. “While there may be “no expiry date on “goodness and decency” as the Prime Minister stated, there is a limit to people’s tolerance.”
    2. “Rowley does not speak for the wider national community but ONLY for his narrow 28 percent support base the majority of whom have embedded small island roots, thanks to PNM’s Caricom Migrant Voters Bank Scheme spanning the Williams, Chambers and Manning eras. And yes, the issue of ethnicity cannot be ignored; even though disappointing to the Prime Minister, but who cares?”
    3. “Trinidad and Tobago has played host to several generations of small islander criminals for too long.”

    4. “Does Rowley have any mechanisms in place to ensure that none of that type comes here to claim Refugee Status?”
    5. “It is my ope that what is now a mild uproar in opposition to the Prime Minister’s “Dominica Initiative” would escalate into a national cacophony of resentment and intolerance toward any new CARICOM arrivals, not only the Dominicans but any and all seeking shelter here.”

  8. Your point being?

Whether Coolie, Chinee or like you, does not change the accuracy of my post.
